One of those future engineers is Joe Beresford, our Apprentice Heating Engineer.

How Joe’s Journey Started

Joe joined WEFIXANY after studying at Spalding Grammar School and gaining experience working in landscaping.

When considering his next career move, Joe had heard positive things about WEFIXANY and wanted to join a company where he could learn, develop and build a long-term future.

“I chose WEFIXANY because I heard good things about the company. Ever since I’ve been here, I’ve enjoyed the work we do and the people around me support me and help me whenever I need it.”

Learning on the Job

As an Apprentice Heating Engineer, no two days are ever the same.

Working alongside experienced Gas Safe engineers, Joe supports a wide range of heating and plumbing projects across Lincolnshire and the surrounding areas.

His day-to-day role includes:

  • Assisting with boiler servicing and repairs
  • Supporting full heating system installations
  • Helping with fault-finding and diagnostics
  • Preparing tools, equipment and materials
  • Maintaining safe working practices on site
  • Completing job documentation and paperwork
  • Learning customer communication skills

As his knowledge and confidence grow, Joe takes on more responsibility under the supervision of our experienced team.

Building Skills Every Day

Since joining WEFIXANY, Joe has gained hands-on experience across a wide variety of heating and plumbing tasks.

So far, he has learned:

  • Pipework installation
  • Hanging radiators
  • Soldering copper pipework
  • Replacing toilet inlet valves
  • Changing taps
  • Servicing boilers
  • Installing pipework in roof spaces
  • Replacing showers
  • General plumbing and heating repairs

And the learning doesn’t stop there.

“I learn something new every day I come into work, and I enjoy every day.”

Training and Support

At WEFIXANY, apprentices receive a combination of practical site experience and formal training.

Joe works alongside fully qualified engineers carrying out gas, oil and LPG servicing, repairs and installations across both occupied and void properties.

Alongside his on-site learning, he attends college one day each week to complete his formal qualifications, helping him build both technical knowledge and practical skills.

This combination of classroom learning and real-world experience helps create confident, capable engineers ready for the future.

Looking Ahead

Joe has ambitious plans for his career.

His goal is to continue learning, developing his technical skills and becoming a highly reliable heating engineer.

“I want to carry on learning day in and day out so I can become a reliable heating engineer, with the hope of eventually starting my own business in the future.”

With his enthusiasm, work ethic and willingness to learn, we’re confident he has a bright future ahead.

Supporting Future Talent

Developing apprentices isn’t just about filling skills gaps. It’s about investing in people, supporting local talent and helping build the future of the industry.

As WEFIXANY Director Mark Beresford explains:

“It’s important to us to give young people real opportunities. Watching apprentices like Joe grow in confidence and ability is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.”

We’re proud to support apprentices like Joe and look forward to seeing where his journey takes him next.
